This evening, after a brief rainstorm that left the air clammy instead of drier, Tristan and I walked up to check the progress of the plants in our community garden and to stroll through the booths at the Crozet Arts and Crafts Festival.   Although advertising for the event was all over local TV, radio, and newspapers, and it was slated to be open until 8 pm, by 5:45  the artists and vendors were buttoning it all up.   We quickly raced through buildings B and C and Tristan was disappointed that the “Kids Area” was deserted.   On display and up for sale was a variety of arts and crafts, with some fine craftsmanship on display but less in the finer arts than I’d hoped.  Two photographers caught my eye and might be worth a return trip tomorrow.   It was hard to judge whether this would normally be a fun event since I went after the rain and after the crowds had left, but I’m doubtful that this will be the place I find the perfect thing to adorn 3 barren walls crying out for something of interest.

Today Jamie played like a star scoring 3 goals for his team in 3 different ways–a header after a corner kick, a lovely sweep and kick after a punt and pass, and a footsie game with the goalie that Jamie won.    Monday he has tryouts for next year’s challenge level team and I’m sure his hard play today earned him the confidence he’ll need to show off for the evaluators.  p1000344.jpg

Tristan had his last “official” game although apparently there’s a makeup game next week and his coach, a college student, will not be with us for that game either.

He seemed to enjoy the post game party with pizza and cupcakes more than the actual playing.  That’s one of the many differences between 11 and 7 1/2!
