I have 2 new items that have brought increased happiness into my household. While things per se can’t make one happy, I have experienced and observed many happy moments enhanced by or maybe created by these two things.
Here is the first, a new porch swing procured on my birthday and graciously installed for me by my cherished best friend. I have spent hours already sitting quietly here, enjoying the daffodils, reading magazines, and just pondering. The motion of the swing is as soothing as a bourbon or an anxiolytic (although I have to admit I enjoyed sipping on a Stagg while swinging!) What’s more, the boys both love it, and it has become Jamie’s new preferred homework/reading location when the day is not too cool.
The second is a Wii game system. Jamie got some money for his recent birthday, and I agreed to go in halvsies with him to get the Wii, and the extra remote (hilariously called a Wiimote) and the charger, etc…..the only problem was the unavailability of the system in this area since November. I ended up calling at 11:55 a.m. EVERY DAY for about 2 1/2 weeks before I got a hit–the local Gamestop had gotten one in, but I had to run in IMMEDIATELY to get it. $380 something later, I emerged with my 2 bags of prize material…..and was the Mommie Hero for a few days.
So far, the boys’ favorites are Tennis, Bowling, and Golf. My favorite activity is making the Miis—little avatars that you can customize to be “you” in the game. Tristan made his and called it Elvis, while Jamie’s looks just like John Lennon. I tried to make mine look like me, and I also made a JJ and a TT that actually better resemble them than dead rock stars.
