About Me

ksmall.jpg

I’m a girl raised in the South with all the passion, cultural baggage, and ambivalence that brings…..Lately I find the past particularly important and have been reviewing all the right and wrong choices I’ve made….The seeming irony of the past coming back to haunt/ inform/ redirect is a complete cliche’ if you’ve ever read Southern literature.  I was steeped in the stuff and it’s obviously had an impact.

Things I love– entertaining and cooking for my friends, arts, people who still growing, going out to movies, a good shot of small batch bourbon, finding beauty, leading a charge.    I love to ski in the pristine woods on a clear blue day and I love to watch a certain two boys play together, unaware they are being observed.  I like to walk or run slowly on a morning when it’s a little crisp and I can look at all the lovely plants and trees and the outline of the mountains.

I’m overly influenced by Southern writers, especially Walker Percy and Thomas Wolfe and Faulkner, and female writers, especially Alice Walker and Isabel Allende.   I confess to loving David Payne’s luxurious if self-indulgent storytelling.  I’ve spent the last few years reading about Quantum Physics and trying to make sense of it from a philosophical perspective.  How much do we create and transform reality?  You could say I’m seeking some truth.

I could listen all day to the Cajun Blues or Motown or Rock and I like it all LOUD.  TURN IT UP!  (My colleagues may not always appreciate my blasting habits but I do try to keep the door partly closed if I’ve just got to keep it loud).

In the real world, I’m researching and writing about what helps people change problem habits, and I’ve travelled internationally to teach about this.    You can read about that in my work posts on the main page or find my work links .

If you know me, you already know how to reach me.  Otherwise, you can get me at lagniappebabe@gmail.com but warning: I don’t check that account very often

Thanks for sharing this bit of personal expression. It’s cool to see that you enjoy writing creatively about topics other than p-values. Hey, I’m not saying p-values are unimportant, it’s just that they tend to be less exciting than say… a play-by-play of Sean Lennon’s gaggle of fans and food reviews. AND, by the way… I dig this “lagniappe” word. Perhaps the most fun thing is imaging how it’s pronounced :)

Hi Leah,
Check out the AIDS walk post featuring you and Rob with the team! BTW lagniappe is pronounced lan-yap.

Thanks for sharing such eloquent words. Lagniappe is the best – and YOU ARE, “a little extra.”
